This focused but casual three-hour session is the perfect starting point for writers curious about the art of memoir, how it differs from autobiography, and where to begin crafting their own true stories. We’ll cover frequently asked questions, read a few compelling excerpts, learn key elements of craft, and clarify the themes at the heart of your own personal story. Expect to leave this session with a clear definition of memoir, a helpful list of writing prompts, and answers to your most pressing questions.
This class must meet a minimum registration of 10 in order to be held. Register early to reserve your place and ensure the class you want is held!

Instructor: Nicole Hardy
Nicole Hardy has taught creative writing for more than 15 years, including as Seattle University’s Distinguished Visiting Author. Her debut memoir, Confessions of a Latter-Day Virgin earned critical acclaim, and was a finalist for the Washington State Book Award. Her essays have been widely published in outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Marie Claire. Her viral essay “Single, Female, Mormon, Alone” was noted in 2012’s Best American Essays. She earned her MFA at the Bennington College Writing Seminars. Learn more about Nicole.
