Learn how to best edit your own work with an eye toward publication. Taught by Jenny Bartoy.
One Session
Sunday, November 15, 2026
10:00am-12:00pm
In this 2-hour class, we will explore how to polish our work for readers & potential publication. The featured content will apply to prose writers as well as poets. We will examine samples from fiction, memoir, and poetry for their artistry, voice, and precision. We will talk about finding the "through thread" in a piece of writing, tightening sentences, looking for music and rhythm, seeking and crafting pattern, adding sensory details and specificity, creating a lexicon, and more. A few prompts will allow students to practice self-editing and refining techniques on their own work.
This class is offered to new and intermediate writers, as well as advanced writers looking to brush up on their revision skills. Students will leave the class inspired by the myriad ways we can play with language to improve our writing and empowered with tools to do so.
Instructor Jenny Bartoy is the editor of the acclaimed anthology, No Contact: Writers on Estrangement.
