HOW TO SURVIVE AND MAYBE EVEN THRIVE AS A WRITER / Special Guest Author Jim Lynch

How do you read that sentence, yawn, and turn out the lights?
— Jim Lynch

Saturday, October 17, 2026
4:00-5:00pm

OlyPages is honored to welcome Local novelist Jim Lynch as our special guest author for our Fall 2026 term! Jim is offering a talk on the joy, obsession and exasperation of trying to write and publish good fiction. He will share his approach to writing discipline as well as his survival tactics for dealing with the daunting work and the capricious business end of it, too. Jim will also share some of the craft advice that has helped him the most when it comes to creating and revising short and long fiction.

Jim is generously donating his time for this event. There is no fee to attend, but all donations from this event will go toward OlyPages’ Scholarship Fund.
Suggested donation: $30.

Please note: registration is required for this event as there are limited seats.

Reception to follow upstairs at Browsers Bookshop. Read more about our partnership with Browsers.

Author Jim Lynch

The New York Times has called Jim “an original and gifted novelist.” He’s the author of The Highest Tide, Border Songs, Truth Like the Sun and Before the Wind. He won the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award and was a finalist for the Dashiell Hammett Prize. His latest novel was a bestseller in France. Before turning to fiction, Jim spent 20 years as a journalist, writing for newspapers and magazines. All of Jim’s books have been set in Washington, including two in Olympia, where he lived for 23 years before recently moving to a  remodeled farmhouse on Vashon Island with his wife, Denise. His next novel—As Big as the World—will be released in May 2027. More about Jim.
